What is a Glowstone Ring?

A glowstone ring is a handcrafted ring that glows in the dark - made by embedding a special luminescent powder directly into the ring material. No batteries, no electronics, just pure craftsmanship.

Glows for hours after light exposure

The Basics

The glow powder

We use pure glow powders with absolutely zero additives or fillers. This is critical because even slight amounts of impurities will greatly reduce the intensity of the glow.

How it works

Most light sources will charge the glow powder. You can use the light on your phone, lightbulbs in your home, etc. But for best results, use a UV flashlight or direct sunlight.

The shell material

Rings are built using materials like carbon fiber, wood, or metal — the glow inlay sits inside a groove or channel of a ring blank, pendant, etc.

Durability

Once charged, the powders put off a bright glow which gradually decreases in intensity over the next 4-8 hours depending on how thoroughly the powder was charged.

How a glowstone ring is made

1. Start with a ring blank

We sell ring blanks ready to work with — no cutting channels or grooves needed. The blank is your starting point.

2. Apply CA glue

Glow powder is applied on top of CA (cyanoacrylate) glue. This is what bonds it to the ring.

3. Customize your inlay

Use glow powder on its own for maximum intensity, or mix it with color pigments. You can also layer in other inlay materials to your liking.

4. Sand and polish

The ring is sanded flush and polished smooth — the glow inlay sits protected just beneath the surface. That's your glowstone ring.

Common questions

How bright does it glow?

Different colors provide different glow brightness!  Keep this in mind when making your color choices or when mixing with color pigments.  As an example, if red glow powder is mixed with a dark shade of color pigment such as black, the glow will be greatly reduced.

Does it glow all the time?

Once charged, the powders put off a bright glow which gradually decreases in intensity over the next 4-8 hours depending on how thoroughly the powder was charged.
